FAQs

What is the jewelry made of?

You can find in every item’s description the material that they are made of.  Most of the jewels are 14k gold, gold-filled, 18k gold plated or silver.

OVERALL TIPS TO KEEP YOUR JEWELRY IN GOOD SHAPE

  • Put your jewelry on last when getting ready: makeup, perfume, hairspray, and lotions can damage your jewels, even if it is gold. Be sure to put these things on before your jewelry to limit the exposure.
  • Take jewelry off before bathing: wearing jewelry while you bathe can lead to a buildup of soap which will cause a film on your gold jewelry, and tarnish your gold plated and gold filled

SPECIFIC TIPS FOR EACH MATERIAL

14 Karat Gold

  • Gold is a soft metal. This makes it susceptible to dings, scratches, and dents. Be mindful of your gold pieces while you wear them and remove them while doing any high-contact activities.
  • Chlorine will weaken your gold jewelry’s structure and eventually lead it to breaking. Make sure you take them off before getting in a pool or spa.
  • Cover or remove while cleaning. Household cleaners with acids or abrasives will damage your jewelry’s finish.

Gold-filled

  • Keep your jewelry away from lotion, perfume or other harsh chemicals.
  • Highly recommended not to wear your accessories when you have contact with water or while exercising, but if they come into contact just make sure you dry them off very well afterwards.
  • Repeated exposure to water can make your items lose their brand new look.

Silver

  • Store all of your silver in a sealed plastic bag or box.
  • Clean your jewelry regularly. You can use a silver cleaning liquid or you can clean it with baking soda. Wet a toothbrush with water and dip it in baking soda. Liquid soap and water also works if you do it after each use or once a week.

18 Karat Gold Plated

  • All of our 18k gold plated accessories have a chemical process to make them last longer, regardless it is very important to you to know that this is not fine jewelry and needs more attention from you to keep it in good shape.
  • Remember to always remove your accessories before exercising, swimming and showering.
  • Avoid the contact between your accessories and harsh chemicals perfumes, lotions or hair products, as these may damage the layer of metal plating and cause discolouration.

Each person's oils make metal react differently, if discolouration occurs it may be due to skin-metal oil reaction. In this case, it is not our responsibility to refund or exchange your item.  ML Joyas is not responsible for the maintenance of your jewelry or the reaction that your skin may have with the contact with our 18k gold plated items.
